Impact Highlights:

  • Woman-owned business
  • MBE
  • Women’s health private practice serving Third Ward of Houston
  • PPP allowed Dr. Richmond to maintain her practice & wellness center, pay staff, continue to see patients during Covid shutdowns

Dr. Teriya Richmond, MD, MPH, PLLC is a female African American physician specializing in women’s heath, delivering high-quality medical care to minority communities. After years of experience in academic medicine, Dr. Richmond opened her own private practice in the Third Ward of Houston, Texas, a historically African American community. Dr. Richmond’s practice encompasses a holistic approach to women’s health and wellness, offering medical and wellness spa services in one space. This wellness center allows her practice to be a one-stop shop for comprehensive medical care, behavioral therapy, and wellness spa services.

With the onset of the pandemic, Dr. Richmond was met with a decline in patient activity as pandemic precautious and safety measures hindered the usual operations. Patients still needed to be seen but it became increasingly difficult for Dr. Richmond to keep her doors open as her practice needed to acquire more PPE to be equipped with fighting the pandemic. Furthermore, Dr. Richmond’s plans to build her holistic wellness center from her newly acquired property was also disrupted. Dr. Richmond received PPP funding that was vital to keep her practice open, pay her employees, and continue to care for her patients.

“Without the PPP, I don’t know if I would have been able to practice medicine in the capacity I do now. I am so happy to be on the other side of this and still be open. My wellness center is still standing, and it has so much to do with the fact that I had access to that capital.”

As a result of the loan through TruFund, Dr. Richmond was able to continue the crucial work of serving her patients in the Third Ward of Houston.
